TY - JOUR PY - 2016// TI - The futility of risk prediction in psychiatry JO - British journal of psychiatry A1 - Mulder, Roger A1 - Newton-Howes, Giles A1 - Coid, Jeremy W. SP - 271 EP - 272 VL - 209 IS - 4 N2 - Significant efforts have been made to identify risk factors associated with suicide. However, the evidence suggests that risk categorisation may be of limited value, or worse, potentially harmful, confusing clinical thinking. We argue instead for a shift in focus towards real engagement with the individual patient, their specific problems and circumstances.
