TY - JOUR PY - 2017// TI - Tyre cornering stiffness finite element analysis for tyre design parameters determination JO - International journal of vehicle performance A1 - An, Ronglei A1 - Zhou, Tao A1 - Gao, Shishuang A1 - Yang, Xiaoguang SP - 167 EP - 179 VL - 3 IS - 2 N2 - Tyre cornering stiffness is an important property for vehicle handling and stability, it is necessity for tyre designers to understand the design parameters' contribution to cornering stiffness in order to design, manufacture and supply qualified tyre product meeting original equipment manufactures' (OEM's) demand on tyre cornering stiffness. In this paper, finite element method (FEM) is adopted to investigate tyre cornering stiffness' dependence on the variation of tyre structure design, component material and working conditions. A series of dynamic simulation of tyre cornering performance are implemented based on explicit solver of ABAQUS software after validating the tyre model by experiment. The simulated tyre cornering stiffness variation due to different design parameter presents a potential reference for tyre designers to tune tyre cornering characteristics in a correct direction. Particularly, this approach could be expanded for more tyre design parameters and performance indices with the premise of model validation.
