N2  - This paper analyzes two types of homicide: those where the authorities were able to determine the reason for the murder, and those registered as "unknown homicides". The aim is to understand and explain the different factors that come together in a criminal investigation and thus contribute to classify an event as murder "known" or "unknown". Our findings indicate that age (<10 years), location (indoors) and substance (drugs) are key elements to explain how investigation on homicide are processed by the criminal justice system in Mexico.<p />  <p>Language: es</p>
