The choice of transport mode for (short-time) vacations up to a distance of 1,000 km (oneway) is dominated by motorised private transport. There is, therefore a considerable potential for making visitor traffic more environment friendly by modifying traffic management. The current empirical database for holiday traffic that is required for optimally adopted concepts has certain limitations. This paper relates to uncommon leisure traffic. It examines the travel behaviour of visitors in Northern Hesse, based on a survey that was conducted in the summer of 2013.
