TY - JOUR PY - 2017// TI - Abrus precatorius poisoning and central pontine myelinolysis JO - Journal of pediatric neurosciences A1 - Sarkar, Sumantra A1 - Basu, Kaushambi A1 - Das, Jayati A1 - Datta, Supratim SP - 353 EP - 355 VL - 12 IS - 4 N2 - Accidental poisoning with Abrus precatorius (AP) can rarely produce neurological complication due to its toxic principle "Abrin". The plant is best known for its red seeds, which are used as beads and in percussion instruments. Ingestion of a single seed can be fatal to both adults and children The authors report such a case in a 2-year old child, who subsequently developed central pontine myelinolysis, an association, to the best of the author's knowledge, has never been reported in literature.
