TY - JOUR PY - 2018// TI - Exploring the determinants of disaster coverage: evidence from coal mine disasters coverage in China JO - International journal of disaster risk reduction A1 - Zhu, Weiwei A1 - Yao, Nengzhi A1 - Yan, Jing SP - 856 EP - 861 VL - 31 IS - N2 - The study explored the determinants of disaster news coverage from the combined perspective of news values and resource allocation. The empirical analysis focuses on coal mine disasters in China, using hierarchical linear regression, sampling on 222 mine disasters. It shows that characteristics of mine disasters relevant to news values of severity and prominence and factors regarding media resource allocation can explain how much coverage a mine disaster receives, and the influences of news values factors can be interactive. The implications and suggestions for future studies are discussed.
