TY - JOUR PY - 1993// TI - Freeway incident management expert system design JO - Transportation research record A1 - Chang, Edmond Chin-Ping A1 - Huarng, Kunhuang SP - 36 EP - 44 VL - 1399 IS - N2 - Nonrecurring incidents may cause unexpected congestion on freeways, even when surveillance, communication, and control (SC&C) systems are in operation. A knowledge-based expert system has been developed for microcomputers to assist in urban freeway corridor incident management. Overall study activities include literature review, conceptual design, prototype system development, program documentation, and user interface design of the expert system. This paper documents the expert system being developed, which includes a graphics user interface, decision-making rules, and a knowledge inference mechanism to automate freeway incident management applications. The benefits of using this expert system are also summarized. Record URL: http://onlinepubs.trb.org/Onlinepubs/trr/1993/1399/1399-006.pdf
