N2  - The modeling of freeway accidents continues to be of interest because of the frequency and severity of these accidents and the congestion associated with them. Some difficulties with conventional modeling techniques are identified. A distinctive approach is presented, whereby generalized linear modeling is used with both macroscopic and microscopic data to develop regression model estimates of a freeway section's accident potential and an empirical Bayesian procedure is used for refining these estimates.
