TY - JOUR PY - 1994// TI - Sensitivity analysis approach for fast estimation of rollover stability of heavy articulated vehicles during steady state turning JO - Heavy vehicle systems A1 - Sankar, S A1 - Surial, S SP - 282 EP - 303 VL - 1 IS - 3 N2 - In this paper, a mathematical sensitivity method is developed to study the effect of variation in parameters on the rollover stability of heavy articulated vehicles during steady turning manoeuvres. Roll stability of these vehicles during steady turning manoeuvres is often investigated using the Static Roll Model (SRM) developed by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute. Previous sensitivity analysis studies show that the roll stability of heavy articulated vehicles is sensitive to change in certain parameters. All of these studies require repetitive running of the SRM whenever a certain parameter is changed. The proposed mathematical approach based on sensitivity analysis requires only one run of the SRM. The necessary equations for this method are derived and mathematical sensitivity analysis is performed on a candidate vehicle. The results show that this approach provides a quick and good estimate of the vehicle rollover response to reasonable variations in parameters.
