TY - JOUR PY - 2019// TI - Analysis of longitudinal fluid sloshing in tank wagon JO - International journal of heavy vehicle systems A1 - Yousefi, Shahin A1 - Taheri, Mahdi Naseri A1 - Shahravi, Majid SP - 225 EP - 238 VL - 26 IS - 2 N2 - In order to study the phenomenology of fluids dynamic performance in containers and assessment of fluids specification in a closed container, the longitudinal sloshing of fluids has been studied and the mechanical parameters of sloshing in a horizontal cylindrical container have been extracted through image processing. The test stand was prepared and three different fluids, water, petrol and oil, were tested in three filling percentages of 30%, 50% and 80% and the sloshing dominant frequency and the damping ratios of these fluids were extracted. In the following, fluid sloshing is simulated by using 2D equivalent mechanical model, and the parameters of vibration that include mass, spring stiffness and damping coefficient are calculated using an optimised equivalent mechanical model. Then the results of experimental tests are compared with optimised equivalent mechanical model results. Keywords: longitudinal sloshing; tank wagon sloshing; image processing; damping ratio; sloshing frequency; optimised mechanical model of sloshing; sloshing test; dynamic simulation of sloshing.
