TY - JOUR PY - 1995// TI - Riblines in Hampshire JO - Traffic engineering and control A1 - Helliar-Symons, R A1 - Butler, N. A1 - Critchell, P SP - 421 EP - 425 VL - 36 IS - 7-8 N2 - Riblines are designed to alert drivers, by noise and vibration, as their vehicle crosses the transverse markings, influencing them to slow down in a situation which might not be obviously hazardous. Riblines have been installed at Basing, Sway and Hawley in Hampshire County in England. Results from the regression analysis suggest that the positioning and arrangement of the Riblines is important and confirm what might be expected from a trial of this nature: there was an initial effect (reduction in speeds) which delayed the time (exponentially towards a new level). This would indicate that the greatest benefit might be found by arranging for the distance between groups of Riblines to decrease as the hazard of which they are warning is approached.
