TY - JOUR PY - 1995// TI - Puffin pedestrian crossing: Pedestrian-behavioural study JO - Traffic engineering and control A1 - Reading, IAD A1 - Dickinson, KW A1 - Barker, D. J. SP - 472 EP - 478 VL - 36 IS - 9 N2 - The changeover of a pedestrian crossing in Edinburgh from the Pelican to the Puffin (Pedestrian User Friendly Intelligent) system was studied. The study was performed over four sample days, three of which were prior to the changeover. Several aspects of pedestrian behavior were recorded, including crossing time, step-off time with respect to pedestrian green and delay time. The usage patterns of the crossing request button of the Puffin crossing were also monitored. Pedestrians were classified according to mobility and age group. Vehicle flow and classifications by size were also recorded.
