TY - JOUR PY - 2007// TI - Multiple magnetic foreign body ingestion: a surgical problem JO - Journal of the American Academy of Surgeons A1 - Pryor, Howard I. A1 - Lange, Patricia A. A1 - Bader, Ali A1 - Gilbert, James A1 - Newman, Kurt SP - 182 EP - 186 VL - 205 IS - 1 N2 - Foreign body ingestion in children is not uncommon. Fortunately, most ingested foreign bodies that reach the stomach will pass through the gastrointestinal tract uneventfully and can be managed nonoperatively by radiographic observation at periodic intervals. Objects that require endoscopic or surgical removal are those that are large enough to cause obstruction, those that may cause trauma because of sharp edges, and those that may cause mucosal or transmural injury by caustic or mechanical forces.
