TY - JOUR PY - 1996// TI - Human Subject Kinematics and Electromyographic Activity During Low Speed Rear Impacts JO - Proceedings: Stapp Car Crash Conference A1 - Szabo, T. J. A1 - Welcher, J. B. SP - 295 EP - 315 VL - 40 IS - N2 - The occupant kinematics and muscular activity for a standard seat-integrated head restraint and for the same head restraint with 2 inches of padding added to decrease the initial head-to-head restraint horizontal distance are examined. No human subject sustained injury after undergoing two rear impacts with a change in velocity of 8-10 km/h over a span of two days. The surface EMG method used was found to be appropriate for determining muscle activity onset times and pre-impact muscular activity.
