N2  - Following a brief discussion of the underlying theory of records linkage, an automated record linkage software package called Automatch is examined along with its various applications. Features, hardware, and user requirements are discussed, and user support and interfaces are detailed and commented on. An example linking crash reports to ambulance records is described. After other possible applications and uses for this software are described, additional issues about records linkage are raised. The report is part of ongoing research carried out by the Hawaii Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System (CODES) project, funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation. The purpose of the CODES Project is to link crash, EMS, hospital, claims, and long-term care data to conduct analyses on the effectiveness of seat belts, motorcycle helmets, and other traffic safety interventions.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
