N2  - Trauma is a major global public health problem involving all age groups, especially children. Thus far, trauma remains the leading cause of mortality in the pediatric population worldwide [1-3]. It was estimated in 2010 that over 620,000 children aged between 1 and 19 years died due to unintentional injuries globally [1]. Additionally, in pediatric trauma, traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality, and children below 1-year-old accounted for half of the total fatalities [2]. In the United States, over 500,000 children suffer from TBI, which resulted in 2,000 deaths annually [2]. In Taiwan, a study on pediatric traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) revealed a total mortality rate of traumatic OHCA in children was relatively high (98.2%) [3]. Therefore, due to the poor prognosis of children with major trauma the policy of injury prevention is very important and should be promoted aggressively.
