N2  - To support safe and stable transport, the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) provides its fleet of about 13,000 cars with maintenance services at 40 rolling stock centers within its area of operation. As rolling stock technology has advanced, the amount of maintenance required has decreased significantly. Accordingly, JR East has introduced a new maintenance system and changed the structure of its maintenance program. While promoting high-level technological development, JR East plans to renew the structure for rolling stock maintenance and provide a level of maintenance deserving of the name of "one of the world's top ranking railway companies.<p />
