TY - JOUR PY - 2006// TI - Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder JO - Fire engineering A1 - Antonellis, J A1 - Meshad, F A1 - Stack, D SP - 85 EP - 88 VL - 159 IS - 12 N2 - A research conducted has proven that the firefighters are prone to more post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than the general population. This can occur during an exposure to a traumatic event in which the individual was confronted with actual or threatened death or serious injury to himself or another. Trauma Incident Rduction (TIR) is a nonhypnotic, person-centered, simple, and highly structured method for permanently eliminating the negative effects of past traumas. The therapists or counselor gives appropriate instructions to the clients to have him view a traumatic incident thoroughly from the beginning to end. This results in the minimization of the stress associated with the feelings and emotions surrounding the trauma. The government must develop programs for identification, education and prevention program for the fireworkers to resolve the PSTD.
