TY - JOUR PY - 2006// TI - AUTOSAFE - A Modular System for Integral Safety in Road Traffic JO - VDI Berichte A1 - Rosl, R A1 - Wachter, M A1 - Zittlau, D A1 - Hoss, A SP - 421 EP - 436 VL - IS - 1960 N2 - In this paper the integral safety system to be developed in the German research project AUTOSAFE will be presented. AUTOSAFE is granted by the German Research Ministry. The project aims at the further improvement of road traffic safety by means of a novel, modular integral safety system which is intended to provide driver support during any driving phase (i.e. from normal driving to a potentially inevitable crash). Functionality of the integral system has been clustered into three categories: comfort-oriented advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), safety-oriented ADAS and functions combining active and passive safety systems. On basis of the required system functionality suitable system architecture has been derived and individual modules have been specified. The performance of the overall sensor system is expected to significantly influence the multistage warning and actuating strategy in AUTOSAFE. For this reason, a multi-level, multi-sensor data fusion approach has been developed which is to be implemented and evaluated during the next project phases. In addition, the ADAS Integration System (AIS) including any algorithms as well as the HMI approach ensuring the driver being in the loop (e.g. by means of different reversible belt functions) are representing essential modules of the integral safety system.
