Statements of civil society organizations and individuals around the world marked this anniversary with calls for other countries to join the treaty (WILPF 2022), and on 21 January 2022, the mayor of Hiroshima called for policymakers to 'take radical shifts in policy towards nuclear abolition, liberated from the nuclear deterrence theory' (Matsui 2022).
