TY - JOUR PY - 2011// TI - Evaluation of driver acceptance of a collision avoidance system with situation adaptive steering function JO - Transactions of Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan A1 - Horikome, Tatsuya A1 - Itoh, Makoto A1 - Inagaki, Toshiyuki SP - 341 EP - 347 VL - 42 IS - 2 N2 - This paper investigates effectiveness and driver acceptance of a driver support system for collision avoidance with situation adaptive steering function. The system sets off an alert when the car is coming close to a pedestrian, and initiates a collision avoidance maneuver upon detecting the driver's braking or turning the steering wheel. The results of a cognitive experiment with a driving simulator showed that the safety was improved by the system and that the participants accepted the system's operation.
