Social effects considered include human loss, loss of productive groups, psychological effect on the injured and economic and psychological effects on the victim's family. Direct and indirect effects of road accidents are discussed and an estimate made of the cost of accidents in 1991. A number of recommendations are made for reducing accident levels in particular the greater use of mass transit in urban areas.
