TY - JOUR PY - 1983// TI - Guardrail ends JO - Proceedings: American Association for Automotive Medicine Annual Conference A1 - Bronstad, ME SP - 389 EP - 407 VL - 27 IS - N2 - The ends (terminals) of longitudinal traffic barriers have been a design problem for a number of years. Many different variations of ends have been used with varying degrees of success. Testing of barriers in general and terminals in particular did not uniformly consider small cars until the first comprehensive safety appurtenance testing criteria was published in 1974. This paper describes recent testing of two barrier end treatments with impacts that included off-center end-on impacts with 1800-lb mini-sized cars. The test results ranged from unsatisfactory to near compliance with the current evaluation criteria.
