TY - JOUR PY - 1995// TI - Tibial Fracture Patterns in Alpine Skiing: Analysis of 524 Fractures JO - Journal of sports traumatology and related research A1 - Hertel, R A1 - Ballmer, F. T. A1 - Jakob, R. P. A1 - Noesberger, B. SP - 46 EP - 59 VL - 17 IS - 1 N2 - The fracture patterns and concomitant local injuries of tibial ski fractures were analysed on the basis of a series of 524 fractures from 1980 to 1993. 13.4% of the fractures were located in the proximal, 53.8% in the diaphyseal, 8.8% in the distal and 24.0% in the malleolar segment of the tibia respectively. Articular fractures accounted for 87.9% of the proximal and distal segment fractures, not including the malleolar fractures. The occurrence of open tibial fractures was relatively high with 6.7%. In contrast to most publications on 'ski fractures' our rate of articular and malleolar fractures as well as the rate of open fractures is higher.
