Initial evaluation should always begin with an assessment of the patient's airway, breathing, circulation, as well as identification of associated injuries. Tooth avulsions are the only true dental emergency. Oral lacerations frequently do not require repair; however, special attention should be paid to lip lacerations involving the vermillion border.
