TY - JOUR PY - 1997// TI - Epidemiological Aspects of the Frequency and Causes of Paragliding Accidents JO - Journal of sports traumatology and related research A1 - Prete, F A1 - Ravasio, G A1 - Giani, M A1 - Valoti, G A1 - Salvi, L SP - 90 EP - 96 VL - 19 IS - 2 N2 - The types of accidental injury that occur most frequently in paragliding and their causes were assessed from the answers to a questionnaire given by a sample of 50 pilots. It was found that the upper and lower limbs and the lumbar spine are the main injury sites. Accidents are primarily the outcome of insufficient training and a failure to take proper account of the terrain and the weather. Methods for their prevention are also illustrated.
