TY - JOUR PY - 2004// TI - Data Collection Technology at ARRB Transport Research JO - Road and transport research A1 - Roper, P. SP - 88 EP - 91 VL - 13 IS - 1 N2 - The use of data collection systems in road safety and road maintenance research at ARRB Transport Research (TR) is discussed. The Global and Inertial Positioning System Integration for Tracking Route Alignment and Crossfall (Gipsi-Trac) data acquisition system developed by AARB TR in 1992, forms the basis of ARRB TR's network surveys. The Gipsi-Trac is mounted in survey vehicles and consists of inertial sensors along with an electronic odometer and GPS navigation unit. It generates an electronic map of road geometry which could be utilized in determining an appropriate speed at which bends in a road could be traversed.
