TY - JOUR PY - 1999// TI - Depression particularities of the elderly JO - Médecine et hygiène A1 - Kammoun, S. A1 - Ketata, Z. SP - 2216 EP - 2220 VL - 57 IS - 2277 N2 - Many particularities distinguish the elderly depression from the younger adult's one. Its frequency is particularly high in hospitals and nursing homes. Its clinical signs can mimic those of other pathologies (somatic signs, cognitive symptoms, delusion,...), psychological states (normal bereavement, etc.) or normal ageing. Its treatment needs adapted antidepressant prescription, social support adaptation and careful outcome supervision. It has great hazards of death (caused by comorbidities, suicide,...), complications (relapses,...) and institutionalization.
