TY - JOUR PY - 1999// TI - Epidemiology of trauma: The role of the anesthesiologist JO - Anesthesiology Clinics of North America A1 - Gupta, K.J. A1 - Parr, M.J.A. A1 - Nolan, J.P. SP - 17 EP - 32 VL - 17 IS - 1 N2 - Trauma is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Maximizing survival in trauma victims requires definitive care as soon as possible after injury and continuing high-quality care to improve long-term survival. Anesthesiologists have many skills essential to this process and have an important role to play in trauma care; however, the largest scope for reducing deaths from trauma lies in the prevention of trauma, and resources must be targeted at this and at trauma management.
