N2  - The Canary Islands are one of the Spanish regions with greater incidence of poisoning by plaguicides (6). In this work we have studied the suicides committed in La Laguna Judicial County between 1998 and 2002. Of the 96 suicide deaths, 25% (24 cases) were caused by agricultural products. Of these, 62.5% (15 cases) were caused by Paraquat, 12.5% (3 cases) by organophosphorates and 25% (6 cases) by carbamates. We will focus this study on the 25% of deaths by carbamates deaths paying special attention to their lethality. In spite of not being included in the very dangerous product programs due to its low degree of lethality, with respect to other insecticides, in this work we presented six clinical cases of acute poisoning by carbamatos that culminated in deaths. The commercial product most often used was Lannate. For the most part, the subjects were males with psychiatric and alcohol consumption precedents. The events took place in their homes in rural areas. We stated that, in spite of the norm on the prevention of labour risks, we still have a high incidence of this poisoning in the Canary Islands.<p /> <p>Language: es</p>
