TY - JOUR PY - 2003// TI - Psychiatric disorders in hospitalized children and adolescents with parasuicidal behaviour JO - Tagliche Praxis A1 - Becker, K. A1 - Schmidt, M.H. SP - 803 EP - 813 VL - 44 IS - 4 N2 - Children and adolescents (n=43) who have been treated as inpatients in 1998 and 1999 because of suicide attempts were assessed in this study. The proportion of suicidal patients among all inpatients was 8,6%. Intentional self poisoning was used most often followed by intentional self harm with a sharp object. The most frequent diagnosis among these patients were adjustment disorders with depressive reactions or other mood disorders (50%) followed by conduct disorders with associated drug abuse. Only five patients did not meet the criteria for any psychiatric diagnosis. Aside from the associated psychiatric diagnosis concomitant psychosocial risks are described and discussed. Guidelines for the assessment of suicidality and consequences for clinical practice are presented.
