SP - 70 EP - 72 VL - 66 IS - 1 N2 - The submitted case-report describes the case of a 60-year-old university educated woman suffering from the already developed form of Huntington's disease who was admitted to psychiatric care after the first suicidal attempt. Dominating mental symptoms of the disease included an affective disorder, irritability, loss of awareness of the morbidity state, psychologically confirmed personality changes and advancing cognitive deterioration. The authors describe the effect of the administered psychopharmaceutical drugs incl. treatment with the atypical antipsychotic olanzapine and demonstrate the possibility to influence by therapy different symptoms and the fact that the patient terminated her life by jumping from a height despite all provided care. The authors maintain that implementation of modern and comprehensive therapy of Huntington's disease calls for a multidisciplinary team and even under these conditions relatively frequent failures must be foreseen.
