N2  - With the introduction of the Belgian law on euthanasia, many religeous or philosophical convictions have clarified their perspective of view on end-of-life issues. As there exists a substantial muslim community in Belgium, the interest has been raised among organisers of debates on the Islamic medical ethics. The Islamic community is not a homogenous group due to differences in etnicity, culture, tradition and influence of juridic schools. Still the Islam is very clear on subjects such as euthanasia, suicide, actively ending life without consent: it is forbidden not only for the patient but also for those participating in it. Confronted with ethical dilemmas on end-of-life issues, some Islamic medical associations have issued guidelines on what is all or not allowed in end-of-life situations according to Islamic laws.<p /> <p>Language: nl</p>
