TY - JOUR PY - 2003// TI - N-Point Linear Interpolation of Motor Vehicle Crush Profiles Applied to Various Force-Shortening Models JO - International journal of crashworthiness A1 - Singh, Jagbir A1 - Welcher, J A1 - Perry, Jacquelin SP - 321 EP - 328 VL - 8 IS - 4 N2 - Methodologies presented in this paper increase the precision. of the traditional two, four or six-point approximations to a continuum motor vehicle crush profile by presenting the general form of the equally spaced N-point linearly interpolated approximation to a continuum motor vehicle crush profile. This general solution is applied to the various published force-shortening models for the determination of dissipated energy as a function of vehicle shortening. The general solutions for the saturation force, bilinear stiffness and power law models are compared against the constant stiffness force-shortening model.
