TY - JOUR PY - 2005// TI - The girl from the Seine JO - New scientist A1 - Watts, G. SP - 48 EP - 49 VL - 187 IS - 2509 N2 - The development of a training mannequin for teaching people to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by Ȧsmund Láerdal is discussed. He worked for two years to develop a mannequin that looked realistic, had a head that could be turned, and a chest that would move as it was inflated. He chose the image Ĺinconnue de la Seine, a young woman with calm and haunting smile, who committed suicide in the river Seine, Paris. He also modified his mannequin to allow trainees to practise external chest compression as well as ventilation.
