SP - S52 EP - S58 VL - 9 IS - Suppl 2 N2 - The aim of this guideline is to improve the assessment, treatment, and management of depression in older adults and to promote mental health through the provision of evidence-based recommendations. The initial sections address issues related to screening and assessing for depression and outline the various treatment approaches (i.e., psychotherapy and pharmacologic interventions) recommended, depending on the type of depression and degree of severity. The treatment modalities for depression are then presented in more detail, followed by recommendations for monitoring treatment. The final sections address issues related to education, special populations, and systems of care for depression in older adults.
