Three leading causes were traffic 993, suicides 357 and drowning 185. The mortality data show decreasing trend mainly in the group of suicides, homicides, accident caused by weapon/explosive devices. The most frequent cause traffic doesn't show decreasing trend. Mortality data although after detailed inspection sometimes even wrong give the overall picture of burden of diseases in the population. The authors suggested more detailed analysis of existing data as well as introduction of child fatality review program. More detailed information will allow better understanding of the problem as a whole. Such data could help future interventions and shape prevention measures tailored to the need of Croatian children's population.
