From the initial flesh to the body he built by means of physical exercise, from writing as a way of using words to the body as a means of fighting against their "corrosive power", and finally to the scored, decapitated body of his suicide by seppuku, Mishima never ceased to be tormented by life, by the question of existence, death and the body.
