TY - JOUR PY - 2009// TI - "Anticipation of the inescapable, a final short-cut": Suicide in La Presse and in L'Avenir de la Vienne in 1890 JO - Annales de Bretagne et des Pays de l'Ouest A1 - Glatigny, J. SP - 47 EP - 59 VL - 116 IS - 1 N2 - This article intends to compare various "faits divers" dealing with suicide, starting from two French-speaking newspapers, on both sides of the Atlantic. The first newspapers is the great Montreal daily newspaper, the second one is one of the two newspapers the most diffused into the Vienne department. Consequetly it's firstly a question of wondering which place each editorial staff grants to suicide. And to determine which differences can be noted in the way of giving an account of them and of staging them in a story. Beyond a simple observation it is a means to wonder about two different visions of the world and two different cultures.
