SP - 36 EP - 42 VL - 10 IS - 2 N2 - Psychosocial aspects and quality of life have become increasingly recognized in oncology over the last years. Patients with neurooncological diseases are burdened both with a life-threatening disease and cerebral deficits as a consequence of the disease itself or of necessary therapeutical interventions. Specific symptoms and psychosocial distress in neurooncological patients, as well as psychosocial interventions, including counselling, psychotherapy, psychopharmacologigal therapy and social work, are described in this article. It is critical to identify heavily distressed patients and their relatives. We show how to evaluate psychosocial distress implementing a computer-based evaluation of the quality of life in daily clinical routine. These data improve the interdisciplinary context for the integration of psychosocial interventions in neurooncology, help to minimize distress and improve the quality of life of neurooncological patients.
