N2  - The increase in the number of deaths due to suicide in aging individuals has been observed in Brazil. The present work surveyed and compared data referring to these deaths in individuals between 40 and 60 years of age, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The methodology is based on quantitative investigation with the analysis of data provided by the Mortality Information System, from 2000 to 2005.
