SP - 199 EP - 203 VL - 80 IS - 7-8 N2 - In the article are analyzed acute intoxications by clonazepam (Rivotril) consulted with the National Toxicological Information Centre (NTIC) University Hospital Bratislava (UNB) in Bratislava during the years 2005-2009. 252 consultations were evaluated according to gender, age, cause (suicide attempt, accident), poisoning severity score and therapy. 57.5% of all patients were female, 40.9% were male. Among 252 patients there were 141 (56%) in the age between 19-50 years and most of these cases were suicidal attempts (128, i.e. 90.8%). Accidental poisoning is most common in children under 5 years of age (42 cases). 68.7% of all evaluated intoxications were suicidal and 22.2% were accidental. 59% of intoxications were combined, particularly with alcohol, antidepressant, anxiolytic and antiepileptic drugs. The most common poisoning severity score (69.8% cases) was PSS 1, which means intoxications accompanied by mild, transient and spontaneously resolving symptoms - fatigue, somnolence, ataxia. There were three lethal cases (PSS 4) as the consequence of combined drug intoxications with suicidal intent. Complete data about therapeutical treatment were obtained for 72 patients. In most cases, hospital treatment was non-specific decontamination and supportive-symptomatic therapy. 64 patients recieved activated charcoal, 39 activated charcoal with laxative, 20 gastric lavage and 6 patients were given the specific antidote flumazenil (Anexate).
