A1 - Pathak, A. SP - 133 EP - 137 VL - 7 IS - 1 N2 - The data on unnatural female deaths in a particular geographic area can give the reflection of its law and order situation. Its increasing incidence is symbolic of continuing erosion and devaluation of women's status in independent India. The present study is hospital based cross-sectional study in which 427 autopsy cases taken of unnatural female deaths occurred in South Gujarat region during the period from May 2009 to April 2010. In present study we tried to find out the different causes of unnatural deaths in females and the various reasons behind them. We found that majority of the deaths were accidental (61.12%) in nature and Burns (41.69%) was the most common cause of death. This study will be useful for awareness of society and improve the situation.
