TY - JOUR PY - 2013// TI - Suicide and genocide from the perspective of identity and narcissism JO - Bogoslovni vestnik A1 - Prijatelj, E. SP - 407 EP - 414 VL - 73 IS - 3 N2 - People belong to different groups and any group can give a person a potentially important identity. It is incumbent upon every individual to choose identities that are appropriate for him or her and to evaluate the relative importance of other identities. Since one is shaped by the various identities of his personal self and since the demands and priorities of different identities can come into conflict, it is necessary to ensure that one identity does not dominate over the others because this may nurture narcissism and provoke violence against oneself and others. Given that we live in an age of excess and rising narcissism in our culture, the paper focuses on various forms of pathological narcissism and its destructive expressions, and sees hopeful prospects in the development of a healthy moral imagination and of a new vision for humanity.
