TY - JOUR PY - 2000// TI - Overtaking As Indicator of Road Traffic Conditions JO - Promet A1 - Topolnik, D A1 - Zebec, Z A1 - Horvat, R SP - 213 EP - 216 VL - 12 IS - 5 N2 - One of the factors affecting the evaluation of road traffic flow on two-lane, two-way roads is vehicle overtaking or passing. Traffic safety, vehicle speed, and traffic capacity depend to a great extent on vehicle manoeuverability on the road. On two-way, two-lane roads, passing requires the use of the opposing traffic lane. Slow moving vehicles create a gap between vehicles that can be used for passing, depending on the length of the gap. The gap can also be used for passing by traffic in the opposing lane. The paper provides mathematical and graphical analysis of the probability of passing.
