N2  - Depressed veterans experience elevated rates of psychiatric problems, which may increase suicide risk. Peer-reviewed journal articles that assessed suicide in veterans with comorbid depression between 1978-2017 were reviewed. Depression was more strongly associated with increased risk of suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and death by suicide in veterans than other comorbid psychiatric disorders. Most studies focused on suicidal ideation or suicide attempts in veterans with depression and comorbid psychiatric disorders. Depression is significantly associated with suicide risk in veterans.
