TY - JOUR PY - 2019// TI - External examination in cases of unexpected death in hospital JO - Kriminalistik A1 - Madea, B. A1 - Doberentz, E. A1 - Radbruch, L. SP - 662 EP - 670 VL - 73 IS - 11 N2 - In Germany nearly 20 Mio. hospitalizations are registered per year, 2 to 2.5 % of all hospitalized patients die in the hospital. In the majority of cases cause of death is result of the preexisting underlying disease, but also in hospital unexpected death occurs. These will be described in detail (f. i. complications of medical treatment, medical malpractice, perioperative death, suicide, homicide by nurses and doctors). Deficiencies of the external examination and documentation of the cause of death in the death certificate are long known and obviously both, doctors in private practice and hospital are concerned equally. An improvement of the quality of the external examination and the death certification is a common duty of the medical profession. © 2019 Huthig GmbH. All rights reserved.
