N2  - This article reports on the latest statistics about crash, death and injury rates for teen drivers. Although they continue to have higher rates than adults, there seems to be real progress in reducing fatalities and injuries, as well as crashes in general for teenagers, especially 16-year-olds. As a proportion of the population of 16-year-olds, fatal crash involvement fell 26 percent from 1993-2003. A new study shows that improvements have continued from 2003-2005. Various statistics are given based on different breakdowns of age groups within the teen cohort. The absolute number of teens killed in crashes in 2005 was the lowest since 1992 despite the largest teen population since 1977. Night and day crash rates are also given, as are drivers in fatal crashes per 100,000 people by age. Statistics indicating parents' awareness of and participation in efforts to improve teen driving safety are also given.     <p>Language: en</p>
