TY - JOUR PY - 2007// TI - Road Prevention and Safety: An Instrument for Measuring Locus of Control in the Social Marketing Perspective JO - TPM: testing, psychometrics, methodology in applied psychology A1 - Falco, A. SP - 41 EP - 61 VL - 14 IS - 1 N2 - This article reports on the design and development of a new instrument for measuring locus of control in driving behavior (LOC-db). The author describes the analysis of the metric properties of this scale, which included a first exploratory phase and a second confirmative phase. The instrument shows a good fit to the data of the multidimensional model adopted in the construction of the scale itself. The results show: more frequent external rather than internal LOC in participants; substantial differences between expectations of control in older participants compared to the other age groups; differences between those with lower education; and differences between more- and less-experienced drivers. The author concludes with a discussion from a social marketing perspective, considering the implementation of several targeted action strategies for highway safety programs.
