N2  - This work seeks to analyze how literary discourses have reflected upon the creation of a regime of truth around feminine experiences on pain, madness and suicide which has been established by medical discourse from the 19th century onwards. Feminization and medicalization of suicide are evident in the 20th and the 21st centuries, especially when female suicide is concerned, and it has become a truth difficult to defy. Two ways of reacting against the monolithic discourse of medicine on femininity and illness are found in the literary texts 4.48 Psychosis (1999), written by Sarah Kane, and Marta Sanz's Clavícula (2017). Both texts attempt to point out at the hidden ideology in the current scientific truths created around mental illnesses, suicide and pain. © 2020 Universidad de Alcala.
